The Cosby Show: What Para-LLelo-gram is... Trapezoidica!
Yes, I call her, "Trapezoidica."
What we have here is initially inspired by "The Creature Teacher" Miss Westlake (Sonia Braga), who was given a parallelogram by her students when she spawned forth a child. She was so happy and to this day, I still hear her voice saying, "Now she can learn what Parallelogram is."
Also this outfit is also obviously sci-fi heavy, which is completely okay because a trapezoid is not a parallelogram, so I hereby made geo-fi. (Get it, a geometrical shape made fictional, see?... ... ... Don't judge me!)
Halloween Special: The Cosby Show, Olivia's clown oufit is too bright and scary!
In honor of Halloween coming up, I am taking three tired, overused costume concepts and doing a little experimenting to try an make them fashionable.
The first is the clown outfit. I remember on "The Cosby Show," they put Olivia in these strange "clown outfits." Granted, adding her character to the show was a mistake, but why did they dress her so strangely in her early appearances?
So my re-working involved lengths of shirring to make all the fabric gather into the waistline while hopefully not making Leonora look fat. This fabric is majorly thin. If it mere more lightweight, it would be see through, and it still added a lot of bulk. Maybe I gathered too much in, but I still think the look is kind of interesting, even if it is not necessarily my favorite thing I have ever made..

This outfit is dedicated to four of my new fans, the Mandarin Martinis! It's out there, it's strange, it's HALF A JACKET! It's ART!
This past week's challenge (yes, I'm a little behind because of the Faire last weekend) was to design outfits based on different areas of New York. I haven't had the opportunity yet to walk around the city, but I do remember in one episode of the Cosby Show, Denise taught Vanessa the appropriate way to dress in the East Village. You dress in clothes that you steal from your father's closet!

This avant garde outfit is a combination of Vanessa's plaid suit (East Village) that she borrowed from Cliff, and the voluminous over-one-shoulder wrap that dancing Claire (Upper East Side) wears in the opening sequence of Season 3. The result is this totally unusual mesh of Vanessa's youtfulness (and her Hair), Claire's sophistication, and Denise's artsy/strange taste. I love it, I don't care if everyone else hates it! You don't see stuff like this every day!
